Wahhoga Village Committee Executive Director Tony Brochini and Chairman Les James will chronicle the rebirth of that village in which they were raised with personal memories and photos past and present. The village, which was destroyed in 1969, has been under reconstruction in its original location just west of today’s Camp Four and not far from the site of the Gateway Partners meeting. The Yosemite Conservancy has assisted with funding to rebuild the village roundhouse and other projects.
Southern Sierra Miwuk Tribal Chair Bill Leonard will report on the lengthy, and as of yet unsuccessful effort by that tribe to achieve Federal recognition. A representative from the Sierra Mono Museum will present news and current information on that facility, established in 1966 by the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians.
